Bring on the cold, fashion gods! But not too cold.
Welcome to the annual fashion sweet spot. August slipped away like a bottle of wine and suddenly it’s late September and one really should be back at school or at least sipping an emotional support latte whilst online shopping for jackets.
For in this hemisphere we find ourselves in the brief interlude between summer dresses and parkas. The perfect moment of the year for looking tres chic without having to wear 24 layers and a sleeping bag. It’s a time to lean all the way into autumn and forage a nutty treat for oneself. Or a rich chocolatey statement piece. Because the right neutral-ish autumnal coat will make choosing the rest of your look easy as pumpkin pie (jeans, knit, thick socks, loafers, par exemple?)
Also, I’m sorry I still stink at photoshop. It takes me so long and I’d rather spend the time foraging on your behalf. So forgive the 2008 blogger layout but here's a list of all my favourite fall outerwear options this season, from cashew hued to roast chestnut.
(Editor’s Note: Links are in the titles.)
Looks like the ideal, sweet, simple little collared number but OH LOOK there’s a hidden back layer of cashmere interest, floating in the autumn breeze.
I haven't taken this off except to sleep since acquiring it a week ago. (See below). A chocolatey buttery treat and in my opinion the piece of the season at Soeur.
Soeur Village Gilet
I have a similar one from a few seasons back and get an inordinate amount of use out of it (and dare I say compliments!)
Excellent layering piece, on top of any kind of knit (or even a denim jacket), or underneath a big coat when it gets colder a la Frenchman on a scooter.
A more affordable idea with a lovely Mandarin button situation. I have last year’s version in black. Faux fur duh.
Water repellant —but not, err, people repellant. Skall are very good at functional-chic and super ethical. Plus you can’t see it well here but the collar and sleeves are corduroy! Love corduroy.
Speaking of cords why not go whole hog. They even have matching trousers! Very nutty Harvard professor cool, I say. To wear right this second but again, a solid layering piece for later. Great pocket space.
Another super luxurious take on the brown leather classic. Modelled by my magnificent friend Tylynn, no less. Great investment piece if you can.
Rohe Double Breasted Tailored Jacket
This blazer style is from Rohe Frames, The Row’s new Amsterdam-based (and vaguely more affordable) *competition*. It comes in a delectable “hazelnut melange” seen below. Will look great under an overcoat when it gets colder too.
This one’s for the international woman of mystery. Who doesn’t like getting rained on.
For the woman who has everything. Including a small mindful demure plane she flies herself on weekends.
I was so close to getting the Mango jacket last year but opted for their barn jacket... Maybe I'll hive it a go this year! Although that Dagmar parka is extraordinary
