Let me tell you a little tale about my go-to attire when I don’t have time to think about getting dressed in the morning. Incidentally, this is also what I’ve been wearing while recording and preparing the launch of Fanfare Podcast Season 3 this week (episode 1 out now!)
Admittedly the mic has been sucking many of my verbal creative juices, so allow me to express these fashion-related *feels* in pictures —worth a thousand words anyway, right?
It all started when Sessei invited me to crash their Spring/Summer shoot for a little portrait and were kind enough to send me home with the look pictured below.

As it’s still not warm enough to get one’s pins out in Paris, I’ve been experimenting with how to put a spring in my step whilst still wearing, well, this outfit.
Groundbreaking revelation! Once ironed, a well-cut white shirt and good pair of jeans look right with just about anything. Infinite combinations of accessories and jackets can adorn this outfit, steering it in whatever direction you’re heading in that day.
Lucky duck that I am, m’pals at Chanel allowed me to pillage their showroom for some not unappealing accessories with which to illustrate my point…
Exhibit A: Girly lunch …
Complete with a nod to an old-school menswear staple. Haven’t worn suspenders (in the North American sense of the word!) in decades but these are a fun way elevate your jeans… in every sense.
Full credit to be divided equally between Lolita Jacobs (probably the chicest woman I know) who I ran into wearing similar suspenders at a party recently, and the sharp-eyed Lea Verbiguie from the Chanel Paris PR team for talking me into these ones.
B: Meetings… en terrasse
It’s the time of year when everyone wants to do everything outside —even meetings. Love sun, hate squinting. Love jeans, hate feeling too dressed down in a business meeting. The answer to first world problems such as these (and many others): sunnies and slingbacks.
C: Something for the weekend
As I mentioned, I’m more and more wary of the sun these days. If I’m out all day this time of year, I pack a hat. Bored of caps? …What about bob? (Why is the French word for bucket hat so much better!?)
D: Night out on the town, ya crazy minx
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, sock-boots (“bocks”?/ “shoots”) are a genius invention. Currently engaged in a longstanding debate as to whether they’re sexy (discuss) but they’re definitely an ankle-flattering, instant solution to a party look, just add a red lip!
Weekly recs…
READ: Moira Donegan on the significance of E Jean Caroll’s lawsuit (and victory)
Donegan really gets to the point of the Caroll case in this piece. The most significant question, she says, was whether the court would agree with Caroll’s claim that it mattered that Trump had sexually abused her... “That he didn’t get to act that way, that she deserved better. It is enormously significant, not just for E Jean Carroll but for all the women who were subjected to living under the indignity of a Trump presidency, that it did.” Amen.
NEED: Yuni Buffa almost-flats
If you’re after ballet-inspired footwear from an up-and-coming brand, Yuni’s your gal. I’ve gone for the Lola Mary Jane’s in cherry red, natch. Comfortable and meticulously crafted.
