I’ve also been experimenting with this length for its sit-on-the-ground-with-toddler-in-public benefits. I agree that you need a committed shoe & waistline. A dash of skin somewhere also helps. I prefer an a-line or full shape as this seems to bring some emotional levity to the length.
The toddler benefits are enormous! Can’t believe I forgot to mention that, thank you. Emotional levity crucially too. Love the movement of the full shape at Patrou.
this has long been my chosen hemline - usually in the form of A-line skirts (probably about half the outfits I logged last month had this skirt length), my iterations tend to be more CDG than BMB.
I agree on the need for the top half to be tucked-in btw but I will also add that jackets shouldn't be overpowering, the Patou styling is clever but would risk drowning anyone who isn't model-tall in fabric from that oversized blazer over the skirt.
All very good points! I think the Patou look could be interpreted with a different cut of jacket for a smaller woman (cropped?) Or just a nice tucked in collared shirt I guess.
I love a good midi skirt! It definitely needs to hit you at the right pay of your calf to make it fashionable and not frumpy, so don't be afraid to have yours shortened ladies. I've had a white linen one for over 15 years and it's a summer staple for me. I feel like Jackie O when I wear it. I love the look of a sequin midi skirt with a white t-shirt and my white Stan Smith sneakers. I feel chic and French when I wear that. Silk midis are great because you can wear them in warm or cold months; with or without tights; wish shoes, sandals , or espadrilles. Midis are great for work or a day of shopping. Clearly, I'm pro midi skirt.
Also, tip for the short ladies, often a midi will fit like a maxi. So if you can't find a maxi that's short enough, try a midi. You're welcome.
Monica - Do you find the BMB mohair blend sweater comfortable? I've heard comments about them being itchy so been hesitating placing an order. Would LOVE to hear your thoughts!
