Bravo Monica! Everyone in France with a voice should be highlighting this issue it’s an absolute disgrace how we’ve let these families and children down through the years
Brilliantly put. I'm about to celebrate my 11th Paris anniversary - a decade plus frequently revelling in French sophistication. However, sometimes I want to roll my eyes right into the back of my head the way some in these parts still roll their eyes at the hint of any so-called callow fastidiousness. The other day my heart sank to pass through the metro station recently rechristened Serge Gainsbourg, of "Lemon Incest" fame - the song he crooned with his tween daughter, half dressed the pair of them. My Parisan BF pooh-poohed my remonstrations. It's just funny, he said. No it isn't. No I'm not a puritan. As for Catherine Deneuve el al's open letter defending men's "freedom to pester" in the immediate wake of #MeToo, bloody hell, ladies, indoctrinated much? In the 80s my Polish grandfather was given a state funeral in Warsaw, attended by two French cabinet ministers who both brought their mistress rather than their wives, a source of great amusement for my family at the time because we really don't take ourselves seriously. Looking back I'm less charmed ... Even in 2026 what you've accomplished here is a bold and brave diversion. Thank you. I enjoy sharing Paris with you from afar.
I feel ill beyond, reading this. But am indescribably grateful for your candid reporting Monica. So much unforgivable sweeping under the rug- all around the world.
This is such an important article underlying that sadly there is an Epstein everywhere. It's beyond my comprehension what "dark demons" are in people commiting such crimes against minors and women. The society has largely become sick, with no values, ethics and moral. Instead of using everything we have and we have much more than our grandparents to make this world better and safer space. Thank you Monica for speaking up, not with rage, but with facts and truthfull observation.
And of course, several essays in publications such as The Atlantic about viewing pedophilia as a mental sickness and curing it with sex robots are not helping at all. (Rolling my eyes....)
Bravo Monica pour cet article ! People knew and did nothing. Terrible. Seulement… What do we know for sure about child abuse ? Men.
I have spent the past four days in shock, despair and fury. Thank you Monica for speaking up. This has been a forever issue in France and worldwide. These crimes are easier to document now thanks to technology but pedophilia has always existed and we need more research to prevend these sicknesses in men that are completely taboo.

Thank you for saying what so many people are unwilling to talk about.
Thank you for using your platform to share this important issue.
Thank you for writing this - clearly written and thoroughly researched, I learned a lot. It’s a travesty and a tragedy.

An excellent piece. Some experience of this issue at our school, the parents’ outrage was not matched by the mairie’s response.
Such a well written piece about such a difficult and sickening thing. Thank you 💔
