Hi there,
My name is Monica Ainley de La Villardiere and I’m a Canadian fashion journalist, broadcaster and influencer based in Paris. After beginning my career as a fashion writer in London, I’ve spent the past ten years living in France, with my Parisian husband and (hopefully) bicultural kids.
So how did I end up here? The truth is many of my followers on Instagram constantly asked me about Paris. If you follow me, you’ll know that I’m obsessed with my Instagram captions. In fact I’ve been known to partake in captain-based posting- a complete no-no given it’s meant to be a photo sharing app. Thus, every week I will bring you my longer form thoughts and answers to your questions here.
There’s going to be two parts to Mon Review. The first part will be my regular fashion-led newsletter where I cover everything from Giant Shorts to Y2K Trends I'm Happy To See The Back Of. The second part, my dear Emilys, will provide you with a unique inside scoop on all things Paris, from French parenting myths to where real-life actual French girls drink coffee and eat actual food (yes!). I’m going to be calling this section of my Substack Your Woman In Paris. This will drop once a month and will be a truly in-depth, no BS guide. AKA the realities of life in France, good and bad, as opposed to the HBO version.
